GENERAL REQUIREMENTS
Indonesian Journal of Agricultural Science (IJAS) publishes primary research articles of current research topics, not simultaneously submitted to nor previously published in other scientific or technical journals. General review articles and short communications will not be accepted. The journal maintains strict standards of content, presentation, and reviewing. The official language of the journal is English. The quality of writing is important to accurately convey the research results. The manuscript should be prepared in clear and grammatically correct English. Please note that the journal does not provide English language editing or proofreading services. All submitted manuscripts are initially screened for their novelty, relevance to the journal scope, and language quality before being sent for peer review. The journal is fully open access and does not charge any submission, processing, or publication fees. For further information, please contact the editorial office.
ETHICS IN PUBLISHING
Please see our information pages on Publication Ethics and Malpractice Statement
SCOPE
The journal welcomes original research papers from authors worldwide that make significant experimental, theoretical, methodological or production oriented contributions to agricultural science. Manuscripts should advance scientific knowledge through novel findings, innovative methodologies, or practical applications relevant to agricultural systems. The journal adopts a broad definition of agricultural science to encourage interdisciplinary research and comprehensive coverage of the field, including socio-economic aspects that contribute to sustainable agricultural development. The journal publishes high-quality research in the following areas: Agronomy, animal science, soil science, climate and environment related to agricultural aspects. Agronomy covers plant breeding, crop physiology, crop production, agricultural biotechnology, plant protection (including pests, diseases and weeds), seed science, precision agriculture, cropping systems, and postharvest technology. Animal sciences include animal breeding and genetics, nutrition, reproduction, physiology, health and disease, livestock production systems, and related biotechnological applications. Soil Sciences cover aspects of mineralogy, classification, land evaluation, chemistry, fertility and nutrient management, fertilizers, soil conservation, physics, microbiology and sustainable soil management. Climate and Environment: climate change and its impacts on agriculture, agroclimatology, environmental management, natural resource conservation, agricultural ecosystems, water management, and sustainable agricultural practices. The journal is published biannually with two issues released each year in June and December.

The use of artificial intelligence (AI). The Indonesian Journal of Agricultural Science (IJAS) supports the responsible and transparent use of artificial intelligence (AI) in scholarly publishing. Generative AI refers to artificial intelligence technologies capable of creating new content, including text, images, audio, code, and synthetic data. Examples include ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Gemini, Claude, and DALL·E.
Generative AI and other AI-assisted technologies ("AI tools") are increasingly used in research and scholarly publishing and can provide valuable support when used responsibly. However, these technologies must never replace human expertise, critical thinking, scientific judgment, or ethical responsibility. These guidelines are intended to promote transparency, research integrity, and the ethical use of AI throughout the publication process.
Authors are not permitted to submit manuscripts that are wholly or substantially generated by generative AI tools. Authors remain fully responsible for the originality, accuracy, integrity, and scientific content of their manuscripts. AI tools may be used for limited purposes, such as: improving grammar, spelling, readability, and language quality; and assisting with literature searches and information discovery.
Any use of AI-assisted technologies should be carefully reviewed and verified by the authors. AI tools must not replace the authors' intellectual contribution, critical analysis, interpretation of findings, or scientific judgment.
Editors and reviewers must maintain the confidentiality of all unpublished manuscripts and associated materials. Therefore, they must not upload unpublished manuscripts, reviewer reports, or confidential editorial content to generative AI tools. Editors and reviewers may use AI tools only for limited purposes, such as language editing and literature searches, provided that no confidential or unpublished content is disclosed to third-party AI systems.
IJAS will continue to monitor developments in AI technologies and scholarly publishing and will revise these guidelines as standards, best practices, and technologies evolve.
Basic checks of grammar, spelling, and punctuation do not need a declaration statement. However, when an AI tool makes substantive changes to sentence structure or organization of a part of the text, this should be disclosed. Authors are recommended to use the following format for their declaration:
Title of section: Declaration of generative AI and AI-assisted technologies in the manuscript preparation process
Statement: During the preparation of this work, the author(s) used [NAME OF TOOL / SERVICE] in order to [REASON]. After using this tool/service, the author(s) reviewed and edited the content as needed and take(s) full responsibility for the content of the published article.
Authorship: Authors should not list AI tools as an author or co-author, nor cite AI tools as an author. Authorship implies responsibilities and tasks that can only be attributed to and performed by humans. Each (co-) author is accountable for ensuring that questions related to the accuracy or integrity of any part of the work are appropriately investigated and resolved, and authorship requires the ability to approve the final version of the work and agree to its submission.
The editors of this journal generally will not consider changes to authorship once a manuscript has been submitted. It is important that authors carefully consider the authorship list and order of authors and provide a definitive author list at submission. Changes can only be made prior to acceptance, and only if approved by the journal editor. This includes additions, deletion, or rearrangement of author names. This journal does not allow authorship changes after acceptance. This includes additions, deletions, or the rearrangement of author names, including changes to the corresponding author.
