The plantation subsector plays a crucial role in the Indonesian economy, contributing to foreign exchange and creating employment opportunities. One of the leading commodities is Virginia tobacco, primarily produced in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) Province. The primary challenge facing tobacco farmers is limited capital, which often hinders efforts to increase productivity and profitability. This study aims to analyze the factors influencing farmers' decisions to access bank credit and to measure the impact of credit on the profitability of Virginia tobacco farming in NTB. Unlike most previous studies that examine these two aspects separately, this study analyzes them within a unified impact evaluation framework. The Propensity Score Matching (PSM) method was employed with 144 respondents, comprising 72 credit recipients and 72 non-credit farmers. Logit regression results reveal that education level, number of dependents, and status within farmer groups significantly affect farmers' decisions to access credit. Furthermore, the estimated Average Treatment Effect on the Treated (ATT) indicates that bank credit has a positive and significant impact on farm profitability, with credit-receiving farmers earning an average of IDR 17.79 million per hectare per growing season, higher than that of non-credit farmers. These findings demonstrate that access to formal credit plays a crucial role in strengthening capital capacity and enhancing the profitability of Virginia tobacco farming in NTB. Therefore, expanding more inclusive and adaptive credit access is a strategic measure to promote higher productivity and improve farmers' welfare.
