The Effect of Planting Media and Vegetable Waste LOF on The Growth and Yield of Green Mustard Plants (Brassica juncea L.)

Abstract

Green mustard greens are a leafy vegetable plant that is commonly favored by Indonesian people. One solution to increase the production of mustard greens is to observe the composition of organic planting media and provide the right concentration of liquid organic fertilizer from vegetable waste. This research aimed to determine the effect of planting media composition and the addition of vegetable waste liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) to the growth and yield of mustard greens. This research is located at Jalan Kedoya Garden, West Jakarta from January to April 2024. This research used a factorial Randomized Block Design with two factors. The first factor was the composition of the planting media (T), which consisted of 4 levels: control (T0), soil + goat manure organic material 1:1 (T1), soil + husk charcoal 1:1 (T2), and soil + goat manure organic material + husk charcoal 1:1:1 (T3). The second factor was the concentration of vegetable waste LOF (P) with 4 levels, those were control (P0), 25 ml/l (P1), 35ml/l (P2), and 45 ml/l (P3). The results showed that the composition of the planting media soil + goat manure organic material 1:1 had a very significant effect on the parameters of plant height at 5 weeks after planting (WAP) (31,58 cm), number of leaves at 5 WAP (10,08 leaves), plant wet weight (7,71 g). It had a significant effect on the number of leaves at 3 WAP (6,92 leaves) and 4 WAP (7,5 leaves).  The application of vegetable waste LOF had not a significant effect on all parameters and therefore had not an impact on the growth and yield of green mustard plants. There was an interaction between the composition of the planting media and the concentration of vegetable waste LOF on root length with the best treatment was control planting media (T0) and vegetable waste LOF concentration of 35 ml/l (P2) (46,67 cm).
