Analysis of Weed Vegetation in Corn Plantings (Zea mays L.) Vegetative Phase in Cipocok Jaya District, Serang City

Abstract

Corn is an alternative food to replace rice and wheat which plays a very important role in achieving food self-sufficiency for society. The aim of this research is to find out the weeds that dominate and the appropriate way to control weeds on corn plantations during the vegetative phase in Cipocok Jaya District, Serang City. This research was carried out from March to May 2024 on corn plantations on Banjaragung, Cipocok Jaya District, Serang City, Banten Province. This research uses the quadratic method by placing plots using purposive sampling with a plot size of 1 x 1 m at 5 points and a total of 10 plots on corn planting land. The results of the research showed that there were 22 species of weeds found in corn fields aged 14 HST, from 13 families/tribes with a total of 118 individuals. Meanwhile, the types of weeds found in corn fields aged 35 HST contained 17 types of weeds from 9 families/tribes with a total of 183 individuals. The most dominant weed in corn plants aged 14 HST was Torenia crustacea with an SDR value of 25.21%. Meanwhile, at the age of 35 HST, the most dominant weed was Spigelia anthelmia with an SDR value reaching 18.43%. The recommendation for weed control in this research is weed control using mechanical and chemical methods carried out simultaneously to suppress weed growth.
