TRIAL OF SOME NEW SUPERIOR VARIETIES OF RICE ON TIDAL SWAMP AND ANALYSIS OF FARMING IN WEST KALIMANTAN

Rice is still the main food for the population in West Kalimantan, the need continues to increase along with the increase in population. Most of the land used by farmers for rice cultivation is tidal swamp. Rice cultivation on tidal swamp is often faced with physico-chemical problems of the land including iron toxicity (fe), high soil acidity (pH 4 - 5.5), flooding, and saltwater intrusion. Efforts to increase rice productivity on tidal swamp is to introduce new superior varieties of adaptive rice. The purpose of this trial was to determine the adaptation of new high yielding varieties of rice on tidal swamp and analysis of farming in West Kalimantan. Trial using Randomized Block Design. The treatments consisted of four new high yielding varieties of rice, namely Inpari 36, Inpari 37, Inpari 39, and Inpari 32 with five replications. The variables observed were plant height, number of productive tillers, panicle length, number of filled grain per panicle, percentage of filled grain per panicle, and productivity. The data were analyzed by Anova and further tested with the Honest Significant Difference test. Farming analysis uses input-output analysis and R/C ratio. The trial results showed that the adaptive and profitable varieties of rice to be developed on tidal land in West Kalimantan was the Inpari 37 variety with a productivity of 7.2 t/ha, farming profits of Rp. 13,829,411, and an R/C ratio of 1.74.
